Where to snorkel in Cabo San Lucas
You have three main options. Santa María is a sheltered bay on the Tourist Corridor that you can reach by car and by boat trips from the marina. Chileno is another bay on the same coast road. Pelican Rock at Land's End is a snorkeling stop on boat tours.
Fish are the main reward. California sea lions are among the animals the protected area is known for, but a sighting is never guaranteed. Conditions change with the sea, so the flag on the day matters more than any guide.

Our picks: snorkeling tours
The Arch and Lover's Beach trip is the compact option. The catamaran adds lunch and an open bar, and Cabo Pulmo is a full day at a marine park.

Santa María Beach
The easiest bay to reach on your own.
Santa María is a sheltered bay on the Tourist Corridor, the coast road between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. You can reach it by car, and boat trips from the marina also go there. Snorkeling and diving are the main activities. Do not assume the sea is calm every day. Check the flag when you arrive and get out of the water if conditions turn.
Fees differ by bay and by tour. Do not assume that the fee for the Land's End area also applies at Santa María. Ask about parking and gear rental on the spot.
Chileno Beach
A second bay on the corridor.
Chileno lies at kilometer 14.5 of the Tourist Corridor. Swimming is generally possible there, but the daily flag decides. Green means suitable conditions, and red or black means a warning about unsafe conditions. Read the beaches guide for what the flags mean.
Do not assume there is always a lifeguard. Bring your own mask and fins if you have them, and ask on the spot about rentals.
Pelican Rock and Land's End
A boat tour stop, not a swim from town.
Pelican Rock is a snorkeling spot near Land's End on boat tours. Do not try to swim there from the marina. Go with a tour that includes equipment and a vest.
| Spot | How to get there | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Santa María | Car, or a boat trip from the marina | Sheltered bay, snorkeling and diving |
| Chileno | Tourist Corridor, kilometer 14.5 | Swimming generally possible, the flag decides |
| Pelican Rock | Boat tour to Land's End | Not a swim from the marina |
For most visitors, Santa María is the simplest first stop, since you can reach it by car and the bay is sheltered. Book a boat tour if you want Pelican Rock and the arch in one trip.
A snorkeling tour at the arch in 2026
Example prices per person.
Without land transfer
$77 instead of $85, plus a $3 dock fee.
With land transfer
$89 instead of $99, plus a $3 dock fee.
What is included
Equipment, a life vest, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.
How long it takes
The program combines about 45 minutes by boat with time in the water. Ask for the total length when you book.
This is an example, not a market range. Ask whether the protected area fee of 125 MXN per person and day is part of the price, because the dock fee does not show that.
Safety and more places
Before you get in the water.
Follow the flags, and never snorkel alone in strong swell. For the bigger picture, see Is Cabo safe?. For another reef day trip with its own rules, read about Cabo Pulmo, or see the boat tours that leave from the marina.
Fees and who pays what
Protected area rights and dock fees are different items.
The protected area around Land's End charges 125 MXN per person and day. Children under 12, older people, retirees and people with disabilities are exempt, with proof where needed. Students and teachers with a valid ID get a 75 percent discount, and Mexican nationals and foreign residents with official proof get 50 percent. The dock fee that a tour adds, such as $3 per person, is a separate item and does not show whether the protected area fee is included. Do not add the two up by default, and do not assume the same rules for Chileno and Santa María.
If you have a car
Go to Santa María or Chileno on a calm morning, check the flag and ask about parking and gear rental on the spot.
If you have no car
Book a boat tour that includes equipment, a vest and the stop at the arch. Compare prices with and without land transfer.
If the sea is rough
Skip the water. Snorkeling needs calm conditions, and boats may change the plan.
